We are staffed purely by volunteers but require an income stream to fund the day-to-day running of the station and that revenue is primarily generated through selling advertising airtime and sponsorship.

We are currently looking for full and part-time salespeople to sell advertising and sponsorship opportunities on the station on a commission only basis. It might be through selling to large corporates and agencies but is equally likely to be to shops and businesses local and known to you – these are the businesses who can best benefit from and take advantage of the competitive rates and defined audience demographic that Belfast 89FM delivers to advertisers at significantly lower costs than other broadcasters and the print media.

Sales prospecting is supported by a number of on-air promos emphasising the fact that we are Belfast’s only truly local station serving the needs of the over 45s across the city. We’re actively promoting the Shop Local theme.

Sales people are encouraged to cold call and will be supported by a prospect pipeline for follow up.

These roles may be ideal for people who may have been previously active in a sales role or that are currently involved in a freelance sales role.

Belfast 89FM will provide familiarisation training on the station rate card, script preparation, the production of adverts and regulatory compliances. A confidentiality agreement will also be put in place and those appointed will be regarded formally as station volunteers and subject to the Volunteer Code of Practice.

Commission rates are generous at 30% for new business, 20% for repeat, of the amount billed to advertisers exc VAT and payment will be made to our sales colleagues when payment is received by Belfast 89FM. A background in business to business sales or a background in retail sales

The ability to self prospect potential advertisers

Excellent inter-personal skills

Experience of working in a team
